Use of Transcutaneous Nerve Stimulator (TENS) for localized Pain relief – A REVIEW
نویسندگان
چکیده
The term Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation (TENS) was coined to depict a method used by medical professionals to treat patients with chronic and acute conditions which causes the patient to be in pain and has become popular among healthcare professionals.TENS is popularly used by healthcare professionals for treatment of pain, as a first line-treatment most often. TENS equipment is manufactured by a large number of manufacturers and can be bought by patients suffering from chronic pain from retail outlets or online stores. However, despite of its wide use, the analgesic effectiveness of the TENS equipment remains uncertain. There’s insufficient evidence to conclude how effective TENS really is when it comes down to the treatment of any kind of agony. Better designs and new trials on new models are required to be made so as to give any recommendations to patients and doctors.

Does High Frequency Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) Affect EEG Gamma Band Activity?
Background: Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a noninvasive, inexpensive and safe analgesic technique used for relieving acute and chronic pain. However, despite all these advantages, there has been very little research into the therapeutic effects of TENS on brain activity. To the best of our knowledge, there is no evidence on the effect of high frequency TENS on the gamma ...

Objective: Few non-surgical conditions are more painful than rib fractures. There are a few methods for pain relief in patients with minor rib fractures. Methods: We used a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID, Naproxen sodium) and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator (TENS) to control pain of the patients with uncomplicated minor rib fractures. One hundred consecutive patients adm...
متن کاملEfficacy of Low-Level Laser Versus Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation for Treatment of Myofascial Pain Syndrome: A Clinical Trial
Background and Aim: Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is the most common cause of facial muscle pain. This study sought to assess the efficacy of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and low-level laser (LLL) for treatment of MPS in comparison with a sham laser control group. Materials and Methods: In this randomized controlled clinical trial, 55 MPS patients between 18-60 years old ...
متن کاملEffectiveness of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation for treatment of hyperalgesia and pain.
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a nonpharmacologic treatment for pain relief. TENS has been used to treat a variety of painful conditions. This review updates the basic and clinical science regarding the use of TENS that has been published in the past 3 years (ie, 2005-2008). Basic science studies using animal models of inflammation show changes in the peripheral nervous s...
متن کاملTranscutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
TENS is a method of electrical stimulation which primarily aims to provide a degree of symptomatic pain relief by exciting sensory nerves and thereby stimulating either the pain gate mechanism and/or the opioid system. The different methods of applying TENS relate to these different physiological mechanisms. The effectiveness of TENS varies with the clinical pain being treated, but research wou...
